Is the Cherry MX Silent Black truly quiet?
It's one of the quieter stock linears you can buy. Built-in rubber dampers on the stem soften both the downstroke and the bottom-out, cutting the sharp clack of a standard MX linear to a muted thock. It isn't silent in an absolute sense, but it's a noticeable drop and works well in shared rooms.
How heavy is the 60g spring?
The 60g figure is the actuation force, putting it a touch above the classic MX Black weighting. Bottom-out climbs higher than that, so it reads as a firm, deliberate linear rather than a feather-light one.
Does it need lubing?
Cherry's stock smoothness is already good, and the built-in dampers limit how much factory lube helps. A light hand-lube on the rails and springs tightens things further, but most people will be happy running these stock.
