Do the HMX Aster switches need lube out of the box?
No. Asters ship factory lubed and the application is clean and consistent, so they're ready to use stock. Enthusiasts chasing the last bit of polish can add a thin coat of 205g0 to the rails and a dab on the springs, but it's a refinement rather than a fix.
How is the HMX Aster different from the Cheese V1?
The Aster is built on the Cheese V1 foundation but updated with HMX's modern manufacturing, most notably a more even factory lube job. It keeps the familiar L1 stem geometry while moving to a PA12 top and PA-2 bottom housing for a brighter, clackier sound.
What keyboards suit the HMX Aster's sound?
The clacky, higher-pitched signature shines in poly-carbonate or aluminium builds with minimal foam. Heavily foamed or gasket-dampened boards will mute some of the character that makes the Aster fun.
