Specs and Feel

The Sonja uses an mPOM stem inside a full nylon top and bottom housing, with 45g actuation, 54g bottom-out, 2.0mm pre-travel and 3.9mm total travel on a single-stage spring. The mPOM stem and nylon housing combine for a soft, deep, thocky signature with little high-frequency clack. The defining trait is the glide: it is intentionally scratchy, with a textured rail feel through the downstroke rather than the slick polish you get from a UPE or polished-POM linear. Stem wobble is average. Factory lube is light, applied to the rails for the bottom-out, not to erase the texture.

Tuning

This is a switch where tuning is a philosophical choice. If you bought the Sonja for its character, leave it alone or apply only a thin housing film to tighten the sound. If you want to tame the scratch, a full stem-and-rail lube job will smooth it considerably, but at that point you have spent money to undo the switch’s entire identity, and you would be better served by a different linear. For maximum texture, look at the Sonja HC (Hardcore) variant instead.

Verdict

Buy the Sonja if you are specifically after a scratchy, deep-sounding linear with a hands-on, analog feel; it is one of the few switches that treats texture as a selling point. Skip it if smoothness is your priority; for that, the HMX Xinhai or Vintage Citrus are far better suited. And if the standard Sonja’s grit appeals but you want more of it, the Sonja HC 52g turns the texture up another notch.
