It introduces a fine, even scratch through the downstroke that’s central to the design rather than a defect. The 22mm KOS extended single-stage spring keeps the return firm and a touch springy. Factory lube is applied to the leaf, stem feet, and bottom-housing rails, which tames the friction enough that the texture reads as character rather than grit. Stem wobble is well controlled.

Tuning

This is the rare switch that is best left alone. The whole point is the textured stroke; flooding it with lube to chase smoothness undermines the design. The factory lube on the rails and leaf is already there to keep the texture pleasant. If anything, a spring swap to tweak weight is the only mod worth considering. Don’t film or re-lube the housing.

Verdict

Buy the Sonja if you specifically want a deep, vintage-feeling linear with deliberate texture and don’t mind (or actively enjoy) a hint of scratch. Skip it if you want the polished glide of something like the HMX Hibiscus or Eva, which are smoother but plainer. The Sonja is a flavor pick, and on that count it delivers exactly what it promises.
