Specs and Feel

Travel is the standard BOX layout: about 1.8mm pre-travel and 3.6mm total, with a ~45g actuation. The BOX-style POM stem rides a polycarbonate top and nylon bottom housing on a stainless spring. The full-rigid polycarbonate top pushes the sound toward a thin, clacky register, and the stock smoothness is only average, with a faint scratch under the stroke that the better Box linears do not have. Wobble is low, as you would expect from a BOX design, and it carries the usual IP56 dust resistance.

Tuning

This is a switch that needs help to feel good. A thorough hand-lube with 205g0 cleans up the stock texture and is worth doing if you already own a stash. But lubing a mediocre switch only gets you to where a better stock switch starts: you are spending effort to reach baseline. Films are unnecessary thanks to the BOX rails.

Verdict

Skip the Box Chinese Red unless you need ultra-cheap filler switches for a throwaway board or testing. For only slightly more, the Box Red feels cleaner and the Box Black is in another league for smoothness and sound. Buy these only when price is the single deciding factor and nothing else matters.
