A polycarbonate top and Nylon bottom housing give it a reasonably clean, medium-clacky sound, and the stainless steel spring keeps the light return prompt. The stroke is smooth for a budget switch, with only mild scratch. Note the housing is compatible with SMD LEDs only.

Tuning

For a sub-twenty-cent switch the Box Red Pro is solid stock. A light hand-lube on the rails and the spring will smooth out what little scratch is present and is worth doing if you’re building a quiet board, since the light spring benefits from it. The BOX stem already controls wobble, so films aren’t a priority. Overall, minimal tuning gets you most of the way.

Verdict

Buy the Box Red Pro if you want an ultralight, durable, low-wobble linear for fast actuation. It’s great for gaming or for anyone who finds 45-50g switches tiring. Compared to a standard Box Red, the Pro refinement brings tighter tolerances and the dustproof stem benefits. Skip it only if you need through-hole LED support; otherwise it’s an excellent budget featherweight.
