Kailh Box Winter

The Kailh Box Winter 38g pairs a featherlight spring with a surprisingly big tactile bump. My notes on its unusual feel, sound, lube and best uses.

Frequently asked

Why does the Box Winter feel so unusual?

It combines a very light 38g spring with a big, abrupt tactile bump. That contrast is rare — the bump can feel heavier than the spring weight suggests, which is part of the charm and part of the challenge.

Is the tactile bump too strong for some fingers?

It can be. The bump is pronounced enough that holding modifier combos with weaker fingers, like pinky chords, can get tiring. Some people swap linears onto modifier keys for that reason.

Does it come lubed?

Yes, it ships factory lubed, so it is reasonably smooth out of the box for a tactile this snappy.
