Tuning

Clicky switches like the Speed Gold are best left mostly stock, because the click bar is what makes the sound and lubing it would dampen the click you bought the switch for. You can lightly lube the lower housing rails and the spring to cut scratch and ping without touching the click bar, but keep grease well away from the bar itself. Films are optional. There is no real way to make a click-bar switch quiet, so if noise is a concern, this is the wrong switch rather than a tuning project.

Verdict

Buy the Speed Gold if you want a fast, bright, satisfyingly loud clicky and you type somewhere noise is not an issue. It is quicker than a standard-travel clicky thanks to the short pre-travel, and crisper than older click-jacket designs like a Kailh Speed Bronze. Skip it for any shared space, and skip it if you prefer tactile-without-click — the Speed Copper is the better pick there. For solo clicky fans, it is a cheap and cheerful choice.
