Specs and Feel

Both versions run 1.8mm of pre-travel and 3.7mm of total travel. The 40g actuates at 32g and bottoms out at 40g on a 22mm spring; the 52g actuates at 40g and bottoms out at 52g on a 20mm spring, so it has a wider, more cushioned force gap. The U4 (UPE) stem is the smoothness engine — it rides cleanly in the matched PA12 top and bottom housings with very little scratch even on the light version. Using the same material top and bottom is what gives the Athena its consistent, clean acoustic signature: full and rounded, but with more clarity and less muddy depth than a damping-heavy switch. Wobble is well controlled.

Tuning

This is a polished stock switch. The U4 stem means a rail re-lube does little, and the clean sound is something you would risk dulling with heavy housing lube. Spring lube is the one tweak worth doing if you catch any ping on the lighter 40g. No films needed — the matched PA12 housings fit cleanly. Pick your weight carefully, as that decides the feel more than any mod.

Verdict

Buy the Athena if you want a clean, smooth, balanced linear with a weight option and zero modding required. Compared to the Keygeek Sanglei, the Athena trades some of that deep, concentrated thock for clarity and a more neutral tone; compared to the Sunflower, it feels a touch more refined in the housing. For a clean-sounding daily linear, it is an easy pick.
