Ventilation holes in the housing and stem help with heat dissipation, and the long spring gives a strong, springy rebound that’s great for fast repeated presses. Because there are no metal contacts, the keypress is smooth and chatter-free. The trade-off is character: that featherweight force and the lightweight build can come across as thin or plasticky-sounding to fingers that prefer some heft.

Tuning

Magnetic switches are dialed in via firmware, so set your actuation depth and rapid-trigger sensitivity in software rather than reaching for lube. The factory lube job is solid and the contactless design stays smooth on its own. If you find the sound thin there’s little a mod can do — that’s largely the lightweight design — but a spring lube will quiet any ping. Most of the tuning here is in your firmware curve, not the switch.

Verdict

Buy the Elf King if you want the lightest, fastest magnetic linear for rhythm games or rapid double-taps and you run a compatible HE board — that long-spring rebound is its strength. If you prefer a switch with more weight and body, TTC’s Dragon Lord or Black Horse feel more substantial. It’s a polarizing switch: brilliant for fast inputs, underwhelming if you want a rich, weighty typing feel. And as always with HE switches, confirm your board’s compatibility first.
