If you want a cheap, smooth daily linear that also makes a backlit board glow, this is an easy pick.

Specs and Feel

You get 45g actuation, a ~54g bottom-out, 2.0mm pre-travel and 4.0mm total travel on a 24.5mm steel spring — a textbook light linear curve. The POM stem riding in nylon housings keeps friction low; factory lube means it’s smooth from the first press, with only a faint trace of stem texture if you go hunting for it. Wobble is acceptable for the price rather than premium. The nylon bottom housing is what gives the sound its softer, medium-thocky character instead of a sharp clack, and the integrated light column is the real party trick — uniform luminescence and better color fidelity under RGB.

Tuning

These are genuinely good stock, which is most of the appeal at this price. If you want more, a thin application of a thicker lubricant (205g0 on rails, a dab of 105 on the spring) removes the last of the scratch and quiets any faint ping. Films are largely unnecessary given the housing tolerances, but a thin film won’t hurt if you’re already in there. Don’t over-lube — the light spring will feel sluggish if you drown it.

Verdict

Buy the Flame Red if you want a budget linear that doubles as an RGB showcase and you’re happy with a light, easygoing typing feel. It won’t out-feel a JWK or UHMWPE-stem Gateron in raw smoothness, but those don’t light up like this. Compared to TTC’s own Golden Red V3, the Flame Red trades a touch of refinement for dramatically better shine-through — pick it specifically when the lighting matters.
