Specs and Feel

The Crystal bottoms out near 60g and uses the Zealio V2 stem geometry, so the bump arrives early in the stroke as a smooth, rounded hill rather than a jagged click. The polished nylon stem rides in a polycarbonate top and nylon bottom housing — the PC top is what keeps the whole switch optically clear, while the nylon bottom keeps the sound from getting too sharp, landing it in a fuller medium-thocky range. Zeal also borrows Gateron’s CAP-series design to add stem stability, and it shows: wobble is low for a translucent switch, where the clear plastics can otherwise feel loose. A gold-plated spring rounds out the package. It ships unlubed, which is the one thing standing between it and top-tier smoothness.

Tuning

This is a switch that rewards a tune. A thin coat of lube on the stem rails and legs smooths out the minor scratch you feel stock without softening the bump, and the gold-plated spring benefits from a touch of grease to kill any ping. Switch films are optional given the CAP-series stability, but a thin film tightens the housing further if you are chasing a deeper sound. Plan an hour with it and you will land a genuinely premium tactile.

Verdict

Buy the Crystal if you want a quality medium tactile and you care about RGB — there are very few fully translucent tactiles that feel this composed. If lighting is not a priority, the standard opaque Zealio V2 gives you the same bump for less fuss, and the Boba U4T is a cheaper alternative if you want a sharper, poppier tactile sound. But for a clear board that lights up and types well, the Crystal is hard to beat.
