Is the EF Silent Yellow actually silent?
It is a dampened linear, so it cuts the sharp click of bottom-out and top-out rather than removing all sound. Expect a muted, soft thock instead of true silence — quiet enough for shared spaces and late-night sessions.
How does it compare to a standard Gateron Yellow?
It keeps the easygoing 50g linear character and similar travel, but adds silicone dampers in the housing. You trade a touch of crispness and a bit of bottom-out feedback for a much quieter, cushioned keystroke.
Do these need lube out of the box?
No. The POM stem and factory tuning are smooth enough to use stock. A light hand lube only sharpens an already good switch if you enjoy the process.
