How it sounds
Frequently asked
Is the Gateron Siliworks Type R a heavy switch?
It sits in the medium-heavy range. The 60gf operation force gives it a firm, deliberate press, though the double-stage stem makes the tactile bump feel sharper than the number alone suggests. Heavy-handed typists will feel right at home; lighter typists may find it a touch demanding over long sessions.
Does the Type R have a short travel?
Yes. With a 3.0mm total travel and a 2.2mm pre-travel, it bottoms out noticeably sooner than a standard MX switch. The shortened throw makes the bump arrive quickly and keeps actuation feeling brisk and responsive.
Do I need to lube the Siliworks Type R?
It runs cleanly enough stock for most people. A light hand-lube on the springs and lower housing rails smooths out any faint scratch and tames spring ping, but go sparingly on the stem legs so you do not soften the tactile event.
