Is the Gateron Sillyworks X Type R a linear or tactile switch?
It is fully tactile with no linear travel. The bump is present from the very top of the keystroke and carries through to the bottom, so you feel resistance the whole way down rather than a single notch near actuation.
What is the actuation and bottom-out force?
The Type R 55g actuates at roughly 55g and bottoms out around 60g, with a 22mm double-stage spring that keeps the tail end of the press from feeling mushy.
Do these switches need lube?
The POM stem in PA66 nylon housings is smooth enough to run stock for most people. A thin tactile-appropriate lube on the rails and springs cleans up any stem ping and tightens the sound, but skip the legs to preserve the bump.
